Miasmal - Cursed Redeemer (2014)
Miasmal practice the old ways of death metal, Cursed Redeemer is steeped in the old school death metal. With a furious pace and outstanding riffage this album is insanity from the past released in a modern setting.
The riffs on Cursed Redeemer are so blazingly fast and travel up and down the scales so fast that it?s almost inconceivable, but in saying that the music never sounds to cluttered which can happen if there is to much scale riding. From the very get go on this album you are bombarded with these furious riffs that melt your face away one second at a time, the rhythm section is equal to the task and unleash these huge drums and awesome backing bass that fills out the massive sound.
The sound that Miasmal has garnered on this album is truly a step back in time that brings bands like Death and Obituary to mind. They also offer something quite different to most death metal, they have this furious rhythm guitar smashing it?s way through each track then they have these traditional solos something that you might hear on an Iron Maiden track or even a Power Metal anthem, I guess this could be the European influences coming through the filter. This doesn?t sound off or out of place however, it?s meant to be there and it sounds like it always was which I?m sure is the case. It gives the tracks something different, scratching away at the walls of your brain going that shouldn?t be there but FUCK it sounds good! This is really evident on track 4 ?Excelsior? which could almost has a speedy power metal feel to the solos.
It?s not all classic metal solo?s however, there are tracks that unleash the flat out, finger mincing classic death metal solo?s. All in all this album is a great release, it hearkens back to the days when death metal got it?s birth, adds some modern sounds and speed, throws in some classic metal and delivers it all within a furious package of speed, hate and destruction.
