Los Natas - Ciudad de Brahman (1999)
Los Natas was formed in 1994 in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, by Sergio Chotsourian (vocals, guitar), Walter Broide (drum, backing vocals), y Miguel Fernández (bass), after a first lineup as a four-piece including singer Diego Porras.
In 1996 they record their first album, Delmar, which was edited and distributed two years later by the mythical Man's Ruin Records of San Francisco, California, supported by the label's owner Frank Kozic. However, the record that opened a way on the music industry for them would be Ciudad de Brahman [City of Brahman], recorded in 1999 on the United States. Produced by Dale Crover (Nirvana, Melvins) this records has would-be classic for the band such as Meteoro 2028.
Next record was Corsario Negro [Black Corsaire], edited in 2002, characterized by a heavy and dark atmosphere. Two years later they edit a new record, "Toba Trance". They were given total freedom to compose the album, and the result was a more experimental record, with incurtions of up to 20 minutes long.
Los Natas toured in the United States (1998/99/00) and Europe (2003/09), where they've shared stage with important bands of the genre such as Queens of the Stone Age, Nebula, The Men of Porn, Unida, Dozer, Circle, Colour Haze or Brant Bjork & the Bros, among others.
They also have done thematic gigs, called Viernes Verdes [Green Fridays], that has had 10 editions so far and it takes place in Buenos Aires's main theaters, the band plays while there are psychedelic projections in the background which gain such importance as the band itself. They also present in other provinces of the country and in numerous places in Buenos Aires.
The successor of "Toba Trance" would be El Hombre Montaña [The Mountain Man], launched in 2006. This album, also produced by Anderson/Claypole, had a heavier and rawer sound than its predecessors. It wa recorded in Buenos Aires and mixed in San Francisco.
Los Natas edit a new album in 2009, with the name "El Nuevo Orden de la Libertad" [The New Order of Freedom], containing ten songs. It was recorded in Buenos Aires and mastered in the United States.
In February 3rd of 2012 they announce they break-up through their Facebook page.
Review by from AllMusic:
Quote:Argentina was a major player in the rock en Español movement of the 1980s and 1990s -- in fact, it was this country that gave us los Fabulosos Cadillacs. While a lot of other Argentinean rock bands that surfaced in the 1990s were heavily into alternative rock, grunge, and ska-punk, Buenos Aires trio Natas has more of a psychedelic/progressive-rock outlook on Ciudad de Brahman. Recorded during a visit to San Francisco, this 1999 session recalls the days of Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, and Genesis. Inviting pieces like "Brisa del Desierto," "Tufi Meme," and "Alohawaii" don't adhere to a simple chorus/verse/chorus format; nor does the band shy away from the type of ambition and complexity for which progressive rock aimed. While Natas can be as melodic as Floyd and Genesis, their sound tends to be heavier and more aggressive, owing a creative debt to hard rock and early heavy metal. They might love melody and harmony, but that doesn't prevent the rockers from providing some forceful power chords along the lines of Black Sabbath or Blue Cheer. This unpredictable effort takes several listens to be fully absorbed, but for those who don't insist on simplicity in their rock, Ciudad de Braham is highly rewarding.Lineup:
